Title: ipbfree
Description: is it better than IF?

theking111 - June 11, 2007 09:38 AM (GMT)
From what I can see, there are more people using IF. I found out ipbfree today and tried playing with it for a while. There are some features that IF does not have. May I know why BB opt to use IF in the first place?

IPB Free firstly was only recently upgraded to it's enhanced IPB 2.0.0, which they are probably providing on behalf of IPB themselves. Before, IPB Free used to use IPB 1.3. Final, just like InvisionFree.

Maybe Cory was unaware of that service at the time. Secondly, pros for InvisionFree suggest that there are more modifications, features and installments for the boards than that of IPB Free.

And thirdly, BB provides InvisionFree services, which, hence the quote in the logo means that they specialise in this. Therefore, this board was probably registered as an InvisionFree board for simple demonstration and intended purpose. :)

.Deluxe.

.Deluxe hit the nail on the head, pretty much.

I would certainly like to try IPB Free out one day now that they've upgraded to IPB 2.0.0, which is something that I was unaware of. However, sticking with InvisionFree is something that I feel very confident and comfortable with - I enjoy simplicity. Not to mention, the long-awaited release of ZetaBoards should be arriving soon. Many of the features and more from IPB 2.0.0 will be included in ZetaBoards.

I started with IF and then moved to IPB in the past year. But IF is very easy and you know where everything is. With IPB you have to search for everything most of the time. But there are backups for everything, If you happened to do something way different from what you wanted todo, and Deleted/messed-up your board.

IPB should only really be used by people who know what they are doing, and know how todo it. Its not that easy. (esp with IPB 2.0.0) (can get lost, but you also learn alot of Do & Don'ts very quickly)

IF could, and is currently used by everyone, People who know what they are doing, and who dont. In IF you KNOW where everything is as it never changes. With IPB its always changing with new Updates, and new software (arcade, blog and more).

Thanks for all the inputs guys. I have been improving my board since last month. Does it mean all my effort will be wasted, if I upgrade my board to zetaboard?

HelenaZF - June 12, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
No, it won't be wasted. All your information (members, posts, forums, etc.) should transfer seamlessly to ZetaBoards. They are promising an easy skin converter, so you will be able to keep your skin.

Basic HTML modifications will transfer without a problem. However, if you have added javascript codes, they may not work in ZetaBoards as they are, and may have to be modified or replaced.

Thanks for the information. I don't have any javascript I think(My javascript box is empty). May I know is this considered javascript <script></script> ?

yes, <script> tags indicate javascript, and can go anywhere in the board wrappers.

ZetaBoard uses the jQuery commands quite a lot, and so are coded a bit differently than Invisionfree boards.

oh god, there are a few codes on my board that I took a long time to have it perfectly installed, such as the navigation bar(I have gone through all the troubles of creating a banner, asking lots of questions  ) Ah never mind, it's all good fun :shiffty:

You will have the option to decline the upgrade. You can keep your board as it is for as long as you like. But once you upgrade to ZB, you will not be able to go back.

You can register a beta board with ZB now, and see how your codes would transfer over. Also, many existing codes have already been converted to ZB. You can find a lot of them here:
http://ifcode.com/zeta/index.php?letter=*

(if you are using adblock, you will need to whitelist the site to see the codes.)

I have tried IPBFree and its quite nice. Though, i wouldn't move their because the boards don't quite take off as fast as InvisionFree's boards. Thus, I am waiting for ZB's to come and wouldn't think about moving their because ZB's has been announced like 1 year ago.

ppb allows users to create new fields under the avatar, I hope zetaboard has such function as well? I really need that function for my forum- my forum is about yahoo fantasy football, would like to add fields called "06/07 ranking:8" "current ranking:123", something like that :ermm:

there's been some misconceptions here that you guys have made about IPBFree.

Firstly, IPBFree does not use IPBoard version 2.0. What you see is a heavily modified 1.3 board. Second: Speed on an IPBFree board is a whole lot better than it used to be (I pulled a test board and got "Script Execution time: 0.1453", which is really decent). Third: Anything that works on Invisionfree can work with IpbFree (including skins and graphics). Codes also work, but they may take a little bit of modifying. There are 2 skin options: The origional 1.3 look, and the modified 2.0 one. The modified 2.0 sometimes hinders codes that look for particular parts of the 1.3 skin (such as the 95% width for row4 in your Board Statistics vs 97%) but they are easy to fix.

And yes, I did sign up just to post that, but it needed to be known.
