Title: Dealing With Spam Topics & Posts

Using the moderations options and topic-multi moderation options to remove spam from the board can be done in many different ways. In this documentation, I highlight the many different ways on how spam can be dealt with.

Moving spam to a different forum on your board may be a more valued method than deleting spam, for some of the following reasons.
  • Moving spam topics to a different forum using the topic multi-moderation option (described below) only takes one click, as opposed to deleting a topic, which takes two clicks.
  • Deleting spam topics and posts can mess up your stats at times, which leaves you to recount your statistics. The more posts and topics you delete, the more your cumulative post count for the board overall will go down.
  • Keeping spam topics archived in a forum is good for reference purposes. For instance, if a user was accused of spamming the board and someone actually cracked their account and spammed the board from their account, you can then go check the IP address of the spam posts to see if it was the actual user or a different person (based on the IP address).
  • Spam Topics
- - - Topic Multi-Moderation: With topic multi-moderation you can easily move spam topics to a new forum (which would be considered the "trash" or "archive" forum). First, create a new forum (Admin CP user posted image Forum Control user posted image New Forum) that you'll use to move trash and old topics to. Name this new forum whatever you'd like and give Read permissions only to the staff. Now, create a new multi-mod (Admin CP user posted image Forum Control user posted image Topic Multi-Moderation user posted image Add New) with the following options applied.
  • Title for this Multi-Moderation Suite?: Whatever you'd like ("Trash Topic", for example).
  • Active in Forums...: Select the forums that you'd like to apply this multi-mod in. Multiple forums can be selected by clicking Ctrl on your keyboard and then selecting the forum (while holding down Ctrl).
  • Move topic?: Select the new "trash" forum that you just created.
Click Add New Multi-Moderation once you're done. Now you will be able to easily move a topic from one forum into the "trash" forum when you select the "Trash Topic" option from the multi-moderation drop-down menu at the bottom of each topic.

- - - Mass Moving/Pruning: The mass moving/pruning option (Located in the Mod CP) allows you to easily move topics to another forum or remove topics from the board. If you would like to move or prune topics from the board, please follow the instructions on the Mass Moving/Pruning page of your Mod CP.

- - - Merge Topics: Multiple spam topics may be merged into one topic with the "Merge Topics" moderation option. For better organization, you may want to use this option when you have a large amount of spam topics in your archive forum. To merge topics, simply follow the directions and fill out the form located in the Merge Topic screen.
  • Spam Posts
- - - Split Topic: Multiple spam posts in a topic can be removed via the "Split Topic" moderation option. By selecting the "Split Topic" moderation option, you have the option to select individual posts to be moved from that topic into a new topic. To split posts from a topic, simply follow the directions and fill out the form located in the Split Topic screen.
