Issue: I want to conduct a poll of my members, and I want to see how they voted, but I don't want them to see other member's votes, or even who has voted.
Method:This can be done by creating a moderated forum in which the members vote by starting a topic using their poll choice as the title of their post. Admins and global mods can access the results via the moderation queue in the ModCP. (Members will never see any information about the topics in that forum because you will never approve any of the moderated topics.)
First make the poll forum:
ACP > Forum Control > New ForumChoose a parent forum, name it and write a forum description.
Set the forum to be moderated:
ACP > Forum Control > New Forum > Postable Forum Options:
"Moderate postings?" Choose moderate topics
Make the permissions for all member groups to
read and to
start topics (there is no need to give permission to reply)
Now, go to each member group here:
ACP > Users & Groups > Manage User Groups > Edit Group > Posting Permissions:
"Can avoid moderation queues?" NO
Set up your poll choices here:
ACP > Forum Control > Manage Forums > Edit forum rules
Set the forum rules to:
Display method: Show full text
Rules title: Title of your poll
Rules text: Set up your poll choices here using HTML code for formatting. Instruct members to name their poll choice in the title of their post.
Members will now be able to post a topic that no other members can see, because it has gone into the moderation queue.
To access the moderation queue, click into your poll forum:
ModCP > Moderate New Topic Queue You will be able to see and count votes there, and tell if members have voted more than once. Note that global moderators will also be able to access the moderation queue.
