Title: New Service, Features and More!

Cory - October 22, 2007 05:36 AM (GMT)
Its been a while since our last update, and there have been several changes and new additions we'd like to tell you about, if you haven't noticed them already.

Banner change You've no doubt noticed we have changed the logo banner and our main slogan to better suit the personality and mission of Big Boards. We think that "Helping you build your Invisionfree Board" captures the essence of what we are all about. The logo design now has a friendlier, not quite so formal feel, while still highlighting the Archive and our commitment to fast service, thanks to the rotating versions of the banner.

New advertising images Matching affiliate and signature images have also been designed, which have now automatically updated in your installations. If you would rather use a previous logo version, those are still available on the BB advertising images page. [Note: Using the code for a previous version will opt you out of automatic updates.]

Check In - Check Out has been promoted from a single thread to a subforum. Now it will be easier to welcome new members, find a certain member's intro, or say a goodbye if you decide to leave us. Temporary "away" messages can be posted in the pinned BRB topic in the new forum.

BOTB eligibility requirements have been lowered to include boards with a minimum of 25 members and 500 posts. If you haven't signed up yet, please do soon, as we will be starting the battles in the near future. Updated BOTB signature and affiliate size Join and Vote buttons have also been provided here.

We are introducing some new features:

Code & Skin Hosting Service We are pleased to offer remote code hosting to our members for JavaScript, CSS, and HTML codes. We think this service will be appreciated by some new board owners who don't feel confident editing their board wrappers yet, and others who just want a reliable place to host their codes. Check out the details and guidelines in the new Code & Skin Hosting forum.

BB Member Map Through Google map services, we are able to offer a world map that you can enter your location and a short "howdy" to anyone that clicks on your pinpoint. As BB has a lot of non-US registrations, it will be fun to check out the locations of our global membership (assuming a lot of you participate). BB's member map may be accessed through the "Search" drop-down menu.

RSS feed It's been available for a week or so, but we still consider it a new feature. The feed displays newest topic title links and name of the last poster for off-site notification. Look for this icon user posted image to access the link for the feed.

We've been listening to you about the navigation, and have installed inter-forum links above all the subforums. We hope this addresses the need for more accessible navigation links.

As always, we appreciate any comments or feedback you might have.

A little tip about the Member Map. When you get ready to place your marker, ZOOM in first.....I thought I was putting mine in the right place, but when I zoomed in later, I had missed by oh, a hundred miles or so. :)

We are aware that the Member Map is not displaying, and are working on the problem. The discussion about this has been moved to the Bug Reports forum.

[Edit 10/30/07: Member Map is functional. You can place your markers now. :) ]

Very nice! However, I still don't find the inter-forum links above all the subforums.

When you click into any of the subforums, you should see a navigation trail above the forum. The link to the forum that you are currently in will be bolded.

It would be even better if we get inter forum links when we click on the main forum like when I click on "The Water Cooler", we get the inter link of "The Water Cooler" as well ^_^

Louis, are you proposing that we add a "Go Back to Forum" link in each main forum? So, for example, when you're browsing a topic you can simply click the "Go Back to Forum" link, which would link you back to the main forum?

Yeah, because I think when one finishes visiting a topic, he/she might wanna to visit another topic in the same forum again. It's a bit of a pain having to click on the home button to go out to the forum index then click on the main forum topic again in order to get into the forum page. Do you get what I mean? ^_^

That has been arranged. :)
