Title: Do you have parakeets?

Hey everyone, do you have parakeets?

I have two pet parakeets, one is yellow/green and the other is blue. I love them so much because they are too funny. :d I let them out of their cages every time I can.

Do you have pet parakeets and what are they like?

No parakeets here. My cats would have them for a mid-morning snack on the very first day. ;)

My mother used to have cockatiels, though. She taught them to talk, and I recall that one of them, Peanut, had a very mischievous personality. She took him with her to the beach one day, and he spent his time looking out of his cage at all the girls in their bikinis and wolf-whistling at them! :haha:

No, I don't know how to keep birds. By the way, won't they fly away when you let them out?

Actualy, I let them fly around the house. They do not fly away though. I used to have a pet parakeet, which I even took outside on my shoulder while riding my bicycle. It just stayed on my shoulder, which was awesome it didnt fly away.

that sounds cool, very loyal hehe. I don't know about you but i think it's a bit cruel to keep birds in a cage - birds are born to be free just like human, image we are kept in a cage, life will be meaningless, no? ^_^

I use to have 2 parakeets when I lived out in Arizona. Their names were Romeo and Juliet.

I miss them, and if I recall correctly we did let them roam around the house. But I don't remember if we gave them away or they got out of the house....

My nephews have two female parakeets: Boyd and Mimi-Igor. (don't even ask why they named them that way...they are weird.)

They clip the long wing feathers back so that the birds can only fly a short distance, like from floor to table. That keeps them safe from flying away.

They are really funny. Most of the time, they just make soft chirping sounds, but if the conversation volume level goes up, they get louder and louder. Sometimes you find yourself almost screaming because you are trying to talk over the birdy screeches as the sound escalates.

Oh, yea. They seem to get louder when the noise around them is loud, but that is why they are fun. Their faces always look curious. The parakeet that I take outside, when I let it walk on the ground, it would follow me where ever I went.
