Title: new Members Online Today code
HelenaZF - December 4, 2007 06:23 AM (GMT)
http://support.invisionfree.com/index.php?showtopic=446721This was just posted up today by swordbeta. I can't understand why there isn't more excitement about it. None of the previous versions of this most requested code have been successful, and I thought there would have been a big partee over this.
Maybe because you have to have a php host to use it. I dunno.

I'm fine with the PHP host, it's the MySQL that has me saying darn. I know you can get free ones some places, but I've just never used one before, so ya...

oh...so you can't host both those at Ripway? I didn't know that. That would make it less appealing to users, I'm sure.
Nor (aka Demonic, I believe--correct me if I'm wrong, GK) also had posted a Members Onlike Today code on iFusion that was php based....but then removed it, and it doesn't seem to be available anymore. I didn't find out about it until after it was gone, so I don't know if it was a viable code or not.

That's probably it. Most IF users are young and don't know what to do when the instructions aren't "Place this in Footers". But I'm going to be installing this on my good friends' board. ^_^

oh good....give us a report, please, slayer. And if you could recommend a good free MySQL hosting site, that would be great too.

I'm not getting really excited about this. It takes a lot of effort, and is it really worth it?

mysql makes it harder and less attractive to use i guess,
maybe in future i will write one aswell using flat files so it could be hosted @ ripway

I do think it is a VERY useful feature....when I had Epsilekts first version installed on my board (even though it was very buggy), I'm sure it increased traffic, because users would stop by just to see who else had been there that day. I finally had to take it off, as it just missed too many people, and users were always asking why they didn't show up on the list. I would love to be able to use a dependable version.
