Title: What are your favorite IF modifications?
Description: ...the ones you can't live without
HelenaZF - September 9, 2006 04:45 PM (GMT)
There are all kinds of interesting and useful things you can do with codes, etc, to modify and add to your board. But some of them are better and more useful than others.
Which modifications have you put on your board that you can't live without? :)
Include links to the codes if you can:
My favorites are:
Quick Edit: It lets you edit your post without any page loads. OMG...I don't know how I lived without Quick Edit. I am a serial editor and LOVE quick edit. But since I don't necessarily want OTHER people to know I've edited a post umpty-eleven times, I bugged CraZyJ until he added an option to the Quick Edit code that would let you turn off the depositing of the "edited by" line in the post. Now it's perfect. :d (And my dial-up members worship at my feet.)
Smilie Scroll Box: I have over 150 smilies on my board and I want to be able to see and use them all...so the scroll box is my second all-time favorite code. I think that the problem that some people have with the scroll box dropping down the page is related to the way IE handles frames. So if you keep the width of the box to 260 or less, that seems to be the magic number that prevents that from happening.
Page Down Arrow Code I love this....I'm always using it to jump down to check my stats or to get to the Forum Jump box.
I also find
Jump to Top and Jump back to Index links very helpful, as I DETEST scrolling.

XJONX's Skin Selector, with quality skins and a button and copyright changer. Light skins hurt my eyes and it stops the inevitable war between light and dark skin fans : )

Slaytanist! I also love your
Default Avatar code......I didn't think about it earlier, because it isn't something you actually use as a function.....but it works great and gives my board a much better look than having a bunch of member accounts with no avatars.
I use a logo avatar that reminds people of their membership in my board:

And it's funny...I have the same opinion as you about DARK skins. LOL! I always feel like I'm coming out of a cave when I leave a site with a dark skin.

Haha thanks : ) I'm honoured! I made a slightly improved version which sorts out some overlapping issues in later versions of Firefox; I'll dig it out for you if you'd like it!

Absolutely interested.....the code I'm using still deposits the default avatar next to the selected one in the Calendar screens and also in the PM screens if you don't start the post with Re:
Small glitches, but it would be nice to have them sorted out.

Oops sorry, that's another thing I overlooked : ) I'll get that sorted for you really soon.

My favorite IF mod has to be the category rank. I think it is ingenious!

Quick Edit, Blog Comments and Reputation System, Color Username Across Boards, and my member legend are codes I can't seem to live without. The Collapse and Expand Categories 4 is definitely a great code, but for some reason, when I go to edit a post in FireFox it ruins the layout of my post. I have no idea why, either.

Hehe, when I leave a site with a dark skin, I can't see the scroll bar anymore :p
Anyhow, no useful mods for me. I don't have a forum so I don't know what codes are the most helpful. I'm too _____ (Forgot word) to use a code that isn't my own anyhow. :(

Quick Edit is most useful to some of my boards. I had to remove them due to the fact that i had so many mods, the board pretty much just shut down.

*agrees*
That is one of the best codes ever! User Colour Across Boards rocks too, and another one I like is one called "Add EDIT USER PROFILE to user pages" by Greg/Moose. Sorry, no link, but basically it adds that text to their user page to skip you going through Mod CP. Ever so useful!
