Title: 2008 ZetaBoards President
Description: ZB Community Event

Mwr247 - February 2, 2008 05:36 AM (GMT)
Dunno how many of you know about this, but there's an official competition on the ZetaBoards Community forums to elect a president! They've already gone through stage 1 & 2, which were the formation of parties and announcement of candidates. Now it's moving into the campaign trail where those running will try to gain support and such over the next few months or so. In the end it will come down to an election. Follow the link below for more information: http://support.zetaboards.com/topic/60567/1/

I think I ought to make it known now that I am one of those running for president :) I'm a part of the Conservative Party, and tomorrow I'll be posting my views on the primary subjects that have been brought up. Any support would be very much appreciated, and I'm hoping to gather a campaign team together soon as well (someone who can make banners would be nice for example). If you're interested, just post here or message me to let me know :d

My views: http://support.zetaboards.com/topic/72467/1/

Your future President,
- Michael

Signed up just to look at it.

Quite fancy joining in. I'm way too busy though. The Liberal Party dude has a great avvy (Dragon Mountain FTW!) and a nice if idealistic set of policies. I'd go with the Commies but it seems there's no actual real reds on IF/ZB at all. It's just HolySavior and a few other conservative staff and members having a laugh XD

If you're interested in politics this might be a nice link for you - http://politicalcompass.org/. I get -8.88/-9.49 which pretty much fits my views of myself as a socialist and anarchist... very few people on IF/ZB seem to agree with me though. Phrank was about the only staff member I shared political views with and he left forever ago (he's probably rotting in a US-owned gulag somewhere in South Asia...)

Mwr247 - February 2, 2008 08:33 PM (GMT)
Actually, I just debated Phrank in the abortion topic XD So sad... :(

But yes, great to see some other BB members joining in. This is going to be fun (as long as someone else in the party I joined wakes up...).

HelenaZF - February 3, 2008 05:18 AM (GMT)
Hey cool.....I"ll be checking out your platform, and unless you are proposing health care for extra-terrestrials, I'll probably join your campaign in some fashion. :d I could make a banner or two for you if you like.

Mwr247 - February 3, 2008 12:36 PM (GMT)
That would be great Helena :) I tried to make a banner, but it sorta... stank... XD

And to the extra terrestrials, as long as they become a citizen of our country and pay for it, I have to say I don't mind lol. But besides that you can read my health care policies and how I back them from the Christian perspective in my posts :)

HelenaZF - February 3, 2008 04:25 PM (GMT)
Wow...I've started to read some of the material there, and you guys are really into some heavy debating!

I dunno if I'm up for that much thinking....I may have to become a Stanleh the cow groupie. :d (...I find his views on medieval justice appealing. Off with their heads.)

So, I'm assuming I would join your party by the joinable groups option, right? Is there a group forum for strategy planning? Does it have snacks?

Mwr247 - February 3, 2008 06:07 PM (GMT)
Yup, it's gotten pretty crazy lol. It just comes with it though, when you post your views it's impossible to please everybody.

Lol, ya. Some of those guys are pretty funny. I think it was probably a better strategy to start off with as opposed to all the heat I'm getting right now (though I have managed to quell some of it).

Yes, just go to preferences and choose whichever group you feel best represents what you believe in (as much as I'd like you on my side, I'd rather have you supporting something that fits you). If you do want to side with me, I'm part of the Conservatives, so just join them.

Yes, each of the groups has their own strategy forum, but I'm beginning to feel ours is somewhat deadish... I posted asked about other candidates, and of the 7 or so people we have none have replied yet. Thats why I'm so eager to get more people on the team so we can start advertising and supporting and planning and doing all the other stuff the other parties have.

As for snacks:

We have cookies! Can't beat that one ^_^
Hope you like chocolate chip :)

Clay - February 4, 2008 01:07 AM (GMT)
Well, I am running for the ZB Republican Party. Due to the problems I have had with my computer I have not been able to get a topic up yet with my views. But I will most likely start on that tonight and hopefully get it posted up soon. :d

Mwr247 - February 4, 2008 04:05 AM (GMT)
Not that I don't want you to run Clay, as it would be nice to have some more conservatives on our side:
QUOTE (Stephen)
All parties have until February 1st for candidates to declare. Anyone in the party may run for the nomination. When you have made your decision, you may start campaigning in the Campaign Trail forum.
A few days late unfortunately :(

I declared my nomination on the first through PM to Stephen, though I have eyt to be able to post my topic up. I guess I ought to talk to Stephen about that....

Mwr247 - February 4, 2008 04:44 AM (GMT)
Thats good then :) I declared in the topic itself, but PMed him before I posted my topic to make sure I was considered a candidate. As long as you are, I don't see why not.

It's unfortunate that you are not allowed to switch parties... Half of the conservatives haven't logged on in a week, and the other half pretty much just decided not to participate anymore... :( Thats why I really need some help, I can't support my party and run for the office all by myself.

HelenaZF - February 4, 2008 07:17 AM (GMT)
I've applied, but have not been accepted yet.

HelenaZF - February 5, 2008 01:30 AM (GMT)
Still nothing. I see no Conservative forum. Perhaps there are a whole line of supporters waiting at your door, Mwr and no one will let them in?

Mwr247 - February 5, 2008 03:50 AM (GMT)
I just got a message from Stephen today:
QUOTE
If the conservatives don't wake up in the next few days, I'll merge the party with the Republicans as the majority of the views are the same. That would mean you'd run under the ZB Republican party for the nomination. I will explain this to the current members of that party as well as the nominees if this happens. Do you have any objections/questions etc?

I think this would explain your problem Helena. Stephen approves all requests, so he's probably holding off incase no one else comes around in the conservatives. In that event, everyone will be moved to the Zeta Republicans.

HelenaZF - February 5, 2008 04:19 AM (GMT)
So you and Clay will have to battle it out? That will be fun to watch. :)

Mwr247 - February 6, 2008 01:40 AM (GMT)
Assuming he announces his candidacy sometime soon. Stephen already posted the official list and I didn't see him on it. Hurry up Clay!!!

slaytanist - February 6, 2008 02:33 AM (GMT)
Why make the merged party Republican and not Conservative though? Conservative is a political ideology, wheras Republican in this sense refers only to an American political party. People outside the US who don't follow American politics will find this confusing, especially since republican as an ideology is not analogous to the party's policy : /

Whilst I'm aware this game is deliberately timed with the US Primaries many people outside the US are playing it. Must say I think that's a very strange decision from Stephen.

Good luck both of you! I'll be dissenting as usual - easy on the tear gas please! : )

HelenaZF - February 6, 2008 02:38 AM (GMT)
A great point...but I imagine Stephen is probably just operating on the premise of merging the inactive group with the one that is active and not taking the names into consideration. You ought to PM him about it with the global perspective.

I believe he went over either the posted views or my views (since I was the only active one at the time) and used that to base his decision. Regardless, he asked and I told him I was ok with the change, so I really see no need for objections unless Helena would rather have another party, since shes the only other person.
