Title: Bye, bye satellite

Well that spy satellite that we lost control of is now gone. They blew it up with a missele last night around 9 CST/10 EST.

Oh good. Read about that this morning (GMT) - at the time they didn't know if they'd pierced the hydrazine tank or not : S

Still my ingrained cynicism wonders if it's anything to do with China's anti-satellite test last year. "The thermal regulators aren't working, so the fuel is frozen and you're supposed to believe this will prevent it burning up in re-entry" seems a little contrived to me.

I think it's pretty simple. It's a SPY satelite. Why would it be odd for them to make sure it didn't land somewhere with parts intact. It makes perfect sense that they'd want to blow it up. It's not like anyone was trying to cover up what it was doing up there.

Sure, I agree it's more than plausible. Just seems a little coincidental that the first time this happens is so close to China doing exactly the same thing.
