Title: Don't click into spambot topics - how to tell

HelenaZF - June 9, 2008 03:11 AM (GMT)
Some users may not know that the only reason a posticon would appear before a topic title on BB is if the topic is posted by a spambot.

We have recently been getting a number of spambot posts containing really explicit pornography, and no one should have to be assaulted by viewing that stuff.

We dispatch the topic as soon as we see it, but save yourself some disgust and don't click in.

godkillah made a code that's pretty effective against those type of posts.
It worked really well on the forum I had that was loaded with bots.

As of now, I doubt we'll have to depend on JavaScript to block these type of posts. Efficient moderation is in order, and I just recently banned the top-level domain of Russia and China, which is where an estimate of 80% of our spambots were coming from.

Well hopfully that will help weed them out Cory...and Godkillah's code of course.^^

My board is too small for spambots as of now so I doubt I'll experience this problem for a long time to come.

You should never assume your board is 100% safe. Size is no shield against spammers who target your forum simply because of a keyword in your address or name, which category you're in, or because of who is hosting your forum.

Just last week, there was a rash of spambots on vBulletin forums, and on some phpBB ones.
