Title: Emotes

When a forum still has the defaul IF or ZB emotes do you think they are unproffesional?

I think that a little. More with IF though.

I don't think so. Unless they look really bad with the skin.
Depends on the forum genre, really. Some genre's like chat forums for instance, or forums that like to use lots of smilies as part of their activities are probably better off with the default, because there are are so many variations made on that style out there that you can add. You can find tons of new smilies just by doing a google search.

I feel a bit sad when I see a forum that's content to just have the default set. There are many sentiments that the default set is simply inadequate to express.
I've never seen a forum where the default set has seemed unprofessional (the IF set, that is; I don't like the ZB default set).
However, I have seen numerous forums where a different sort of default set is used and looks horrible!
As for the IF default set, there are many thousands of variations available, and artists willing to fulfill custom requests. ^_^

I LOVE the IF default emotes. I think they are some of the best out there. Not fancy but they are the ones I use the most. Not a big fan of the ZB ones. Now having said that obviously they are not sufficient. I will admit I am a bit of a fanataic when it comes to smilies. We have over 200 and I go through them once a year and delete as many as I can and replace them.

Unprofessional? No. Perhaps bland, more than anything. Obviously a custom theme(skin) that does match the color of default emotes might also detract from their appearance as well.

In a starting base no, if they are trying to continue to work a successful board. I believe they should change it to something original and good looking to the eye.
