Title: General chat?

Xarina - July 4, 2008 11:04 PM (GMT)
Are general chat boards making a come-back or is it still resource and ad boards doing the popping up lately?

Jeremy RR - July 6, 2008 01:14 AM (GMT)
More or less resource boards.

Leon [RR] - July 6, 2008 01:16 AM (GMT)
Both, to be honest. :/

Um, well i havent really seen any general discussion here...so who knows.

wissaboo - July 11, 2008 03:46 AM (GMT)
if there weren't general chat boards why would we need resource and advertising boards? Aren't they there to promote and help the chat boards?

cjs - July 11, 2008 07:21 AM (GMT)
who knows.... time will tell!

I've not actually seen a general chat forum anywhere lately. There are only resource, advertising and gaming boards everywhere.

Well there arent that many and when someone does make a general chat forum it usally dies

I seems like advertising boards are the bulk of the new boards created lately. Some of them do develop viable communities, but it seems an odd genre to me--a place that exists to promote other places. What is there for members to be loyal to?

From what I've seen, general chat boards will fail most of the time unless they start out with a group of people who are already friends and want to chat with each other. You just can't go trolling around for chatters to come and chat about nothing in particular. There has to be some kind of draw to get them there. Keeping them there is yet another story.

The ones that seem to do best are fan-based chat boards. Everyone who joins one of those already has something in common with the other people there.

 That's exactly what happened at mine. They joined didn't post once
but sent me a PM saying to join their forum and I'll get loads of members by
advertising there. What a crock that was.

It's a bit ironic that advertising forums have to be advertised to you so you can advertise on theirs lol :P
I wish people did make more general chat forums, they just don't last very long do they :(

Safinn - July 17, 2008 04:40 PM (GMT)
I think resource boards because they are like general boards but offer resources too. So most people choose them.

I think I'll have to agree with everything HelenaZF said,
I never really understood the advertising boards at all @ _ @

rockon1824 - July 23, 2008 02:52 AM (GMT)
I think as long as boards are being created, advertising and resource boards will always be the bulk of things because their the one type of board that offers something to every other type of board.
