Title: post your rules

wissaboo - July 16, 2008 08:54 PM (GMT)
thought is might be fun to compare and contrast rules on different boards.

maybe you will see some you would like to include. Maybe you will see some tht will make you laugh. Maybe you will see some that will only apply to one specific board type and no one elses.

here's mine

QUOTE

5. Flaming and trolling will not be tolerated. If you see posts that fit this description please report them to a moderator and refrain from responding to them.

6. Duals are not allowed.

7. Any behaviour percieved to be threatening, overly aggressive, overly sexual, or stalking will result in immediate deletion of your account.

10. Arch-Angels reserves the right to delete the account of any individual we believe is here only to disrupt others enjoyment of the site or to gain information to add to a flame war on another site. Any long standing member who engages in the same behaviour will not be allowed to continue.

11. We treasure the happy community we have formed here and will not allow any individual to infringe on others enjoyment of the site.

12. Please do not make posts about the whereabouts of Scott Bakula (or of any other actor) other than announced public appearances. Any posts giving information about the location of an actor, or their families, will be deleted and your posting priveledges will be revoked. This includes requests for such information. If any posts are made that we percieve as threatening to any public figure; we will take any steps available to contact appropriate authorities.

13. Do not give other people access to your account.

QUOTE (Music-Talk Rules)
These rules apply to the entire Music-Talk forum. Though it doesn't happen often, specific forum rules override this.

You will be WARNED if you:
  • Flame, bash, or attack anything (be it another user, a band, a brand, etc.). Flaming is defined as any type of harsh insult or words meant to hurt and/or provoke another user. We don't mind you stating your opinions, just do so in a civil, calm matter. This is especially helpful in controversial topics as it allows everyone to respect others' opinions without feeling offended or forced to agree with them.

  • Spam in any way, shape or form. Spam includes, but is not limited to: making irrelevant or unnecessary posts, purposely posting something to get on others' nerves, typing in 1337, constantly complaining, refusing to drop an issue, advertising, encouraging or promoting things that are illegal, or making any post that does not positively contribute to the topic at hand.

  • Double post. The "Edit" button has a very nice purpose, and it's to prevent double posting. There is an exception to this rule, however. If you happen to be the last one to post in a thread that hasn't been posted in in at least 5 days and wish to contribute new information, you may make another post.

  • Use excessive profanity. There are ways to get your point across without swearing; however, we realize it's a normal aspect of life so doing so now and then is okay. However, realize that using profanity in the wrong way may make your post come across as a flame.

  • Post derogatory comments. This includes anything that is meant to insult someone because of their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, nationality, "group", etc.

  • Advertise anywhere but your signature, profile, or blog. There is no need to do this in any other part of the forum. If reported as advertising through a PM or e-mail, you will be banned.

  • Hotlink an image. Please host all images you include on the site on a website like Photobucket or ImageShack. If you are found hotlinking, a moderator will PM you and give you 48 hours to fix it, or you will be warned and the image will be removed.

You will be BANNED if you:
  • Receive three warnings. We're on a three-strikes system. If you commit any of the above offenses three times, you'll be banned; no ifs, ands or buts. (Read FAQ for more information on banning.)

  • Post pornographic, vulgar, or gory media. If it shows death, blood, sex, etc. do not post it. If you're not sure whether it can be posted, then it probably shouldn't be.

  • Intentionally spam the site. This is an obvious one. If you join to intentionally spam, advertise, etc., you'll be banned faster than the speed of light.

  • Make more than one account. If you have a problem with an account and can't get into it, try resetting your password from the link on the log in screen. If that doesn't solve anything, e-mail the site at user posted image with a detailed explanation of your problem.

Additionally, all content posted must comply with the ZetaBoards Terms of Service.

Now you've read the rules, ignorance of the law is no excuse. For a more detailed look at the banning system as well as many other things that will keep you out of trouble, make sure you also read the Forum FAQ. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask here or to PM a staff member.

Enjoy your time on Music-Talk!

Warnings and Bans

Unfortunately we have to warn people who do not follow the rules. We want everybody to know when we will warn, and what such a warning means.

When does somebody get a warning, and what does it mean?
- A warning is what it says it is: It is to let you know that you are doing something wrong. You will need to change the way you act on the forum.
- If you'll still do things wrong and we don't think it was out of a mistake, your account may be removed immediately.

What happens if I get a warning?
- When you get a warning you will receive an PM (from a moderator) why you got the warning.
- You should read the rules again in order that you don't get another one!

I have been really good lately! Can you remove the warning?
- Unfortunately, no. We do not remove warnings. A warning is something to learn from. It does not immediately mean that you will be banned. It just means that you will need to look over the rules again, and adjust your behavior. The warning is just seen by yourself and by the staff, so don't worry too much about it.

I got a permanent ban! What now?
- Don't register for a new account. We have ways to see that it's you, even when you register under a new name and new email adress.
- You are no longer welcome on the forum. If you feel really bad about this you may ask an admin for an unban. This does not mean that you will get an unban! But we might be able to give you a second chance.

If you have any questions, feel free to email or PM any of the moderators or admins.
Don't be afraid of this now. If you write in a "normal" way and act normal nothing will happen to you.

I found this some time ago on Webtechnica forums. I like it cause it shows you in an ironic way why we need those rules:
Some guidelines for life:
* Whining is not socially acceptable behavior, even for 2-year olds.
* Everyone is entitled to their own opinion... regardless of how stupid it is.
* Everyone is entitled to be offended by anyone else's opinion.
* Everyone have as much right to their own opinion as everyone else does to be offended by that opinion.
* Everyone has as much right to act like as a**hole as everyone else does to treat them like an a**hole.
* Everyone is entitled to an equal opportunity to say things that make them look stupid and/or ignorant.
(there is a difference)
* You don't need to agree with everyone... not everyone will agree with you.
* You don't need to like everyone... not everyone will like you.
* The fact that you may feel really, really strongly about your religion/politics/country/pet/etc does not make your opinion of said topic any more right or important than anyone else's.

... as everyone has that right to be offended by something. But if everyone erased everything that offends them in this world, there would be nothing left to erase and no one left to erase it.

So enjoy your time here and have fun!
Ah: and don't start to erase people. ^_^

not at all. Just curious to see how the type of forum affect the types of rules.

for example not many forums would have a use for the rule about posting the whereabouts of actors like mine does

Black Angel - September 11, 2008 07:13 PM (GMT)
This is the Abridged version to the rules on my forum. I have an FAQ outlining things that aren't as important such as sig limits, bbcodes etc..

QUOTE
1. Respect all staff and members.
1b. Admin decision is final. If it has nothing to do with you, don't get involved.
2. Read the FAQ before posting a question. If you have a question that wasn't in the FAQ, then you may post it here. [Visitors click here. | Members click here.]
3. Keep the cursing to a minimum.
4. No spamming or replying to spam. (unless it is in the forum games section)
5. No advertizing. Period. Your sig and profile are the only areas you may post your link.
6. No yelling or flaming. In other words, personal attacks will NOT be tolerated.
7. Do not post anything that is sexually explicit, hateful, malicious, this includes links to shock sites, porn, warez etc..
7b. Cloaked urls (such as tinyurl etc..) are not allowed on this forum. This is for the safety of the members on this forum.
8. Do not post anything you don't own the copyrights to. Media clips are allowed, for listening and viewing, but not for download. Do not try to pass someone else's work off as your own.
9. Do not harass or alienate other members.
10. You must be 13 or older to participate on this forum. Anyone younger will be banned upon discovery.
11. If someone has flamed or offended you, PM the staff with a screenshot of the offending post and we will handle it.
12. Try to stay on topic, general discussion, is the only area for off-topic discussions.
13. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and disagreements are inevitable, so feel free to disagree with that person, but do not attack them.
14. Do not ask to be staff. If you have to ask, then you probably won't get the position. Keep that in mind.
15. Double posting within a 24 hour period is not allowed.. unless, it is in the forum games area.
16. Only one account per user. If you lost access to your original account, follow the instructions posted here.

All ip addresses are logged, and so, if you spam, flame, post porn, warez, or anything of the sort, I will report you to your isp for abuse of service. So do us both a favor, don't make me report you.

Note: If you don't see any topics that you'd like to post in, then by all means start a topic. Just make sure that it isn't against the rules and you will be fine.
These rules are subject to change with or without notice, so if in the event you find yourself in trouble, saying that 'you did not know' will not excuse you, as it is your responsibility to read the rules, even just to check up on them once in a while.

Have fun and enjoy your stay here.
