Title: Dark & Light Skins =)
Eternal. - July 25, 2008 12:49 PM (GMT)
Well in my opinion i like light skins better because it makes you feel warm and that everyone around you is not arrgo or mean. V.V dark boards you tend to make flame wars more often & you feel surrounded by mean ppl

I think dark skins are harder to make look good, but when done right they are the best looking skins around, same with light skins, some times.

I've always preferred dark skins over light. And I don't think a dark skin has any bearing on people flaming others.

What?
You got to be kidding me.
I would love to know how you came to this conclusion...

A skin that is too dark to read makes me feel particularly mean. But it doesn't push me into flaming...but than's only because I can't see what I'm typing. You should see what I tried to write.....
Seriously...some skins have dark gray background and a text color that is just a couple shades lighter and miniscule. It's exhausting trying make out the words.
To be fair, I've encountered some light skins with a parallel problem. It's just bad color choices from skin designers that are trying to be SO smooth...but just do it badly.

I like having it in the middle... Too dark sucks... And too light burns!

GFX Factor is beautifully skinned, btw. I say I am not a fan of dark skins, but I love the really well-done ones.

Funny I just got a comment on another board my skin is average
But thanks for the compliment, and I do 'get' the dark skin and hard to read dark colored text, not a fan of those myself.

^You know, I just looked at the skin on your board and it was so dark that now I just have the urge to knock somebody out.

I prefer light skins, but it all really depends on an individual's taste. :)

light skin is really easy to make it looks good...dark ones is harder
Justin - July 25, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
Yeah, true, darker skins are hard to make look good, but when done right, the look freakin' awesome.

Light, Light, Light!! I have some skins that people hate. ( I post threads on ZBTZ asking people opinions) But when I have a certain number of people dilike the skin, Its back to the drawing board.
DESERTEAGLE - July 31, 2008 06:43 PM (GMT)
I think it should be a mix of the two. If the forum is too light or too dark, it could make it unsettling on the eyes of its members, which will probably turn them away if they can't even look at your forum without making them dizzy.

Dark Skins are way better, in my opinion, anyways...
ESPECIALLY the really well done ones...
a really easy dark color scheme would be black/really dark gray with white/really light gray text...
now then, if you put bright red on a black skin, it won't always turn out nice...
in fact, most of the time, it doesn't...
but, white and black complement each other quite well...
same for a light skin...
white/really light gray background with a black/really dark gray font would look kind of nice...
it really also depends on where you put what color scaled, and blah blah blah...
:)

I prefer dark over light skins but sometimes I see a really good light skin such as the one I just recently put on Madads which was a massive hit amongst everyone there. :D
Black Angel - September 11, 2008 06:15 PM (GMT)
I like both, just as long as they are easy on my eyes.. I realize that there are some who prefer both, so what I do is put both types in the skin changer, and I alternate between light and dark for the default.. If my members want to changer to a lighter or darker skin, they can do so in their User CP.

I like dark skins, esp ones with black backgrounds... I dunno I just think they look cooler somehow :D
