We take screen shots of the skins in the index because so many skin creators re-use their test boards later for other skins and the preview links in their topics are then worthless. Probably 30% of the previews in the Invisionfree skin index were of skins we had to personally install to get a screen shot for the previews. It is intended to be a helpful service to the index user.

Based on what I've read, taking screenshots of other peoples work for previews isn't considered an infringement of copyright. Instead, it follows through the basic principles of Fair Use.
Big Bards has its own program that adds skins to it Database from the Support Board. (Its called a Cory)
