Cloning; Is it ethical/moral?

It had to come up sometime. I want to know everyone's opinions on the ethics of cloning.

While I am against embryonic stem cell research, I believe adult stem cell research is an acceptable method of obtaining stem cells for cloning of organs and such. Although I am a Christian, and the typical response by many of us is that cloning is "playing God", I do not consider it such, and have yet to find anything the Lord would have against it. After all, the creation and use of medicines to prolong life could also be considered playing God could it not? I believe He has provided such tools for us to discover and utilize, such as electricity for example. Cloning is another valuable asset for humankind.

Haven't a clue. I don't have morals. I'm interested in the other responses.

I think it's kind of weird, but I don't see anything morally wrong with it. It helps people without hurting anyone else. That's okay in my book.

The problem with cloning is that taken to its logical conclusion, is that you can "create" or xerox a genetic copy of a human being. Up until that point, cloning can be seen as medicine....as in making replacement parts for someone who is ill and and would die without them.

What has people worried about it is the crossing of that line between just making new parts, and making new people.

We back up blood by storing extra preceeding surgeries. In a way, we already "clone" skin by growning cultures of it to cover areas of burn victims and plastic surgery patients. Organs and muscles woudl be the next logical step. It would be hard to argue against that.

But what about someone with a brain tumor? If we had the tecnology to clone a brain and transplant it into the same person, would the person be the same person afterward? Those are the questions that require an answer before moving into those kinds of areas.

I think that because one thing can lead to another, cloning shouldn't be done. If humans figure out how to clone organs, how long will it be to clone humans? That idea=a big no no.

What if someone, say, cloned Osama bin Laden? That wouldn't be very nice, would it?

A harmless example of cloning is the story of the dog that was cloned, and now the puppies are for sale. They're exactly like the first dog that passed away. Okay, so the dog passed away. Everything will eventually. Once something is done, its done.

That was a very....interesting response to the topic. Still, I would think cloning to some extent would be okay, but who knows where it would lead to?
